- Oldfleet Primary School | Hull | England | Curriculum | Relationships Education
Relationships Education Relaciones Educación Relationships Education teaches the fundamental building blocks of positive relationships, focusing on friendships, family relationships, and relationships with other peers and adults. The school follows the government guidelines drawn up in 2019. Here is a summary. Link to DFE Guidance on Relationship Education 2020 The government is currently carrying out a review of relationships and sex education across England. The review will conclude before the end of 2023. We will keep you informed about the outcome of this review. Children learn about relationships, the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, human sexuality and sexual health in an age-appropriate way. Older children learn about puberty, how a baby is conceived and born, body ownership, and safeguarding. All of this helps to keep them safe. To ensure that our teaching is of a high standard, we follow the Jigsaw curriculum. Jigsaw is a curriculum used by thousands of schools, its lessons and materials are quality assured. Links to the Jigsaw curriculum are given below. Before commencing with the Jigsaw curriculum we consulted with our school community. We will always consult with parents if we make any changes to our curriculum. The vast majority of lessons will be delivered by teachers, but some lessons will be delivered by members of the school nursing team. We are also proud to be a part of the White Ribbon campaign, and we take part in age-appropriate activities from time to time. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from sex education lessons. These form a relatively small part of the Jigsaw curriculum. The school will let parents know when these lessons are happening. You can see the content of what is taught in Jigsaw lessons this term here. If you have any questions that you would like to ask us about the Jigsaw curriculum queries do not hesitate to discuss these further with your children’s class teacher. This timely information sharing enables us to provide immediate and tailored support to help safeguard the child’s wellbeing and ensure they feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
